Slay the Spire has enjoyed lasting success due to its essentially very straightforward gameplay, although mastering the game is a monumental challenge. There are a lot of collision systems in Tainted Grail. It’s a meaty game, with a lot of numbers and a lot to figure out. Even if you’re familiar with the genre, Tainted Grail doesn’t care to rationalize anything. It will take a few hours for you to figure out what is on screen and what it all means. There is a lot going on, almost all the time. You can’t block, have to generate a barrier using Maneuver cards and can use poison arrows, shadow shots… it’s a lot of fun.īut with all of these options and choices come some of the downsides of the game – even if it may not be fair to call them inconveniences, exactly. I had the most fun with the Sentinel, mainly because the mechanics are unlike any I’ve played with before. This is even without going through each of the nine classes, each feeling distinct from one another. There are runestones, passive perks, permanent buffs… a lot to consider, basically. You come across characters that you can connect with over and over again, and there’s more to choose from than I’ve experienced in games like this, although Griftlands still have to take maximum points if we’re talking storytelling. The story is great and the voice acting really does wonders, especially after listening to all the gibberish in Biomutant recently. Your character develops during races, both within and outside the race. The emphasis is much more on RPG systems. Corrupted Grail is different from these games. I’ve got a few hundred hours at Slay the Spire and I dove head first into Monster Train earlier this year. I’m not new to the roguelike deckbuilding genre.
